We are Rights in Focus

Humans deserve certain rights in life; we aim to advocate for, document, and promote human rights through the lens of photography.

Our core principles are in using education to document and promote human rights through photojournalism.

One way we further our mission is by supporting photojournalists that want to help promote human rights.

We are transforming the way people think about photography, journalism, and how it is distributed worldwide.

Our Rights Archived site contains pieces captured by our journalists and photographers. They support and further our mission to advocate for, document, and promote human rights through the lens of photography. Our journalists contribute to our archives so that they can be freely available at any time for educational purposes.

We are breaking barriers throughout everything we do, therefore we are seeking full corporate transparency. We’re accomplishing this by developing software that is licensed under an Open Source Initiative approved license. As a company, we are working on documenting corporate processes to become more transparent to the public.

About us

We are Rights in Focus (formerly Foundation for Human Rights through Photography), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses photojournalism and education to inspire action on human rights.

Humans deserve certain rights in life; we support photojournalists that want to help promote human rights. Regardless of if it is positive or negative, if it is human rights, it needs to be documented. The human mind forgets; but in the digital age—computers almost guarantee that the photographs that we take, and the context given with them will never be forgotten. Humans learn from their mistakes and wins, so that they may educate themselves on what they have done right or wrong. Because of this, we encourage photojournalists around the world to use their artistic skills to document human rights, in context, so that we may learn from what we as humans have done right, and wrong, and change our future actions accordingly.

Our principles

We believe that we can better human rights for all in three ways:

Education

Through photojournalism, we educate people about human rights globally, shedding light on both triumphs and injustices.

Documentation

Our photojournists document human rights issues to create a visual archive that inspires change and reflection.

Promotion

We promote human rights through exhibitions, publications, and educational initiatives to foster compassion and understanding.
